The Harlan High School Lady Dragons have been investing in our young Dragons by hosting a little league for elementary students. Students worked on skills while having fun playing games and learning from the high school girls team. 🐉💚🏀

Harlan Elementary School recently held the first Fitness Fair for the school year. Students in Ms. Wilson’s Health & PE classes participated in over two days of fitness. On Day 1, students moved through fitness stations - BMI & Body Fat %, Grip Strength, Sit & Reach, Sit-Ups, and Bear Crawl and participated in a balance station as well as a blood pressure/pulse ox station. On Day 2, students attempted to walk a mile (30 laps) around the gym and participated in a lesson on the sugar and fat content in foods, portion sizes, and healthy vs. unhealthy foods. Students received a healthy snack at the end of the lesson. The HES Fitness Fair was held in collaboration with Mrs. Ledford and PRI - Partners for Rural Impact with community volunteers from ARH, the 4H Extension Office, the Southeast KCTCS Medical Assistant Program, Save the Children, 21st Century, and the HISD FRYSC. Several other staff members also volunteered their time to help make the Fitness Fair a success. It was definitely a team effort from all students, teachers, and volunteers!

Dragon Families,
We will participate in our Annual Dragons Against Cancer walk. The cancer walk will be on Thursday Oct. 5th at 1:30pm. To participate in the walk, each student needs to pay $1 and have a signed permission slip. The permission slip is attached.
We will be starting in front of the high school, walking down Central Street, turn in front of the court house, then up East Clover Street back to the Elementary. If It rains that day, we will still have our walk. Each school will have a scheduled time to walk in our school buildings.
Also, we are selling rally towels this year. Our towels are $5 each. Please fill out the attached order form if you would like to purchase a towel. Orders and Money for towels MUST be turned in by this Friday, Sept. 22nd in order to have them ordered and printed in time for our walk.
If you have any questions, please contact Erin Alred, erin.alred@harlanind.kyschools.us
Join us in the Elementary auditorium today to learn strategies to help your child with reading homework! 📚
Reminder: HES Parent-Teacher conferences are tomorrow from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.
Mrs. Stapleton’s Science classes have been busy learning about the engineering design process. Kindergarten created backscratchers. 1st grade built bridges. 2nd grade made traps to catch a unicorn. 3rd grade created traps for class pets that had escaped. Her 4th graders invented houses of the future! 🐉
The Boys and Girls Club will be closed from September 20th to September 22nd.
