2022 is looking a little brighter for our students and families at the Harlan Independent School District.
Over the Christmas Break, major renovations took a giant step forward at Harlan High School with the redesign of the gymnasium floor. On behalf of the Harlan Independent Board of Education, we are excited to dedicate the gym to Harlan's most decorated athlete, Wallace 'Wah Wah' Jones.
We invite the community to Harlan High School on Saturday, January 29th for a dedication ceremony in honor of Wallace 'Wah Wah' Jones and his remarkable accomplishments.

The Lady Dragons claimed another win today by defeating Williamsburg in the Bill Perkins Holiday Classic. 🏀
Aymanni Wynn opened the 1st Qtr with 12 points with 4 three point goals to help fuel a fast 20 to 10 lead after one period.
In the second quarter, Emma Owens made 3 three pointers of her own to continue the hot shooting for the Lady Dragons as they took a 40 to 22 lead.
The Lady Dragons shot 75% from the line in the 3rd Quarter to help extend the lead 24(59-35) heading into the 4th.
Emma Owens led the Lady Dragons with 22 points and Aymanni Wynn registered 21 points and 12 rebounds in the 70-54 victory.

The Harlan Green Dragons (9-4) have extended their win streak to six knocking off Clay County, TN 56-54 in the championship game of the Monticello Bank Classic held at Wayne County High School.
Jordan Akal led all scores with 25 points going 6 for 6 at the charity stripe and connecting on 8 field goals.
Tennessee Tech signee Grant Strong pitched in 21 points on the evening after a 40 point performance the night before. The Dragons defensive effort to limit touches for strong was effective throughout much of the game. Defensive pressure created a turnover to secure the game. Strong was unable to get a shot off as time expired.
Key reserve Matthew Pennington came off the bench to give the Dragons an enormous lift defensively grabbing multiple rebounds and blocking a critical shot down the stretch.
Gist connected on two free throws late in the game to push the Dragons ahead 51-49, a lead they never relinquished.
Kaleb Mclendon, Jae’dym Gist, and Will Austin were named to the All-Tournament Team. Senior Jordan Akal, averaged 22 points over the three game span, took home Most Valuable Player honors.

Congratulations to the Harlan High School Boys Basketball team as they go on the road to defeat 12th Region Southwestern 87-84.
The Dragons were led by Senior Jordan Akal who scored a game high 43 points while connecting on nine (9) three pointers (seven in the first half). Akal was also perfect from the free throw line knocking down 8-8 for the game.
Kaleb Mclendon connected on seven (7) three pointes, hitting key buckets in each quarter on his was to a 22 point performance.
The Dragons took a five point half-time lead into the locker room (43-38) only to watch the Warriors tie the game 63-63 at the end of the 3rd.
Akal took over in the 4th quarter scoring 16 and converting on 6-6 at the free throw line to secure the win.
Will Austin pitched in 15 points while Kyler Mclendon and Jae'dyn Gist had 3 and 4 respectively.
The Green Dragons will return to action on Tuesday at 7:30 taking on Wayne County in the Monticello Bank Classic held at Wayne County High School.

Green Dragons 🐉 🏀 took care of business in the Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge going 3-1 and knocking off Frederick Douglass in the final game of the tournament.
Fighting back from a 16 point deficit in the first half, the Dragons held Frederick Douglass to two field goals in the fourth qtr to secure a 80-74 win.
Junior Jae’dyn Gist scored 19 points and played stellar defense on his way to Player of The Game honors.
Jordan Akal led all scores with 32 points and was named to the All Tournament Team.

Playing in back to back games in the Dribble Drive Classic, the HHS Dragons 🐉 🏀 picked up another win vs 16th Region Rowan County 61-55 in overtime.
Junior Will Austin was unstoppable around the basket converting on a key three point play in Overtime to push the lead out of reach. Austin had 20 points on his way to being named Player of The Game.
The Dragons will return to action tomorrow in the Dribble Drive Challenge at South Laurel High. Opponent and time TBA.
