May is just around the corner and it appears we have some seniors who have a serious case of senioritis. There is a false social media post regarding no school for Friday, April 25th due to Internet and Water outages. They get an A for effort, but unfortunately that post if false. As much as we would all enjoy an extra day off in April we will have school tomorrow so we don’t have to make it up at the end of May. Remember, the Harlan Independent School District will be on a regular schedule for Friday, April 25th. Again, we will be on a regular schedule for Friday, April 25th.

In a special called meeting on Monday, the Harlan Independent Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint Mrs. Jennifer Parsons as the next Superintendent of the Harlan Independent School District. She will assume the role on July 1, 2025, succeeding current Superintendent C.D. Morton, who previously announced his resignation effective June 30th. Congratulations to Mrs. Jennifer Parsons!

🎥 Make plans to attend the Dragon Drive-In at the Harlan Center Parking lot tonight. Catch the movie Tangled at 7:00 pm and Grown-Ups at 8:30 pm. Parking is free, but donations would be appreciated. 🍿 Food and drink will be sold to assist the Harlan Green Dragon Entrepreneur class.

The Harlan Elementary School Academic Team dominates onces again. Running their District streak to 8 while scoring a whopping 74 points. The 74 points are the 6th highest point total in the state and Sawyer Crow delivers the top score in Kentucky in Social Studies. In case you were wondering... The win for the Elementary level means Harlan Elementary, Harlan Middle, and Harlan High just completed their 6th straight sweep of District Championships. GREAT NEWS GREEN DRAGONS! Attendance across the district was Fantastic, and to show our appreciation, ALL HARLAN STUDENTS will be granted free admission in tonight's Harlan vs Middlesboro game at Middlesboro High. There will be a dedicated entrance for Harlan students as you enter Middlesboro High School. Simply have on your Green and White and come ready to cheer on your Lady Dragons. All students must enter through the designated entrance for free admission. Harlan High School had an incredible 94.9% attendance today, followed by Halran Elementary with 94.12 and Harlan Middle School with 90%. We need 100% at the game! #morethanaschool #familyofdragons

Congratulations to the Harlan High School Lady Dragons on defeating Jackson County tonight in the All A 13th Region basketball tournament. The Lady Dragons will play in the 13th Region All A Championship tomorrow night at Middlesboro at 7:OO PM. Your Lady Dragons will take on the Middlesboro Yellowjackets. We want to encourage everyone to wear your GREEN and WHITE and come out to support our Lady Dragons and cheerleaders. To encourage attendance and participation, the school with the highest attendance tomorrow, Tuesday, January 14th will win free tickets for EVERY student in the school that ATTENDS the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.
