In order to make sure our classrooms and teachers are ready for what is sure to be the most exciting school year in our Green Dragon history, we have decided to delay the start of school for our students by one week. The new start date for students at Harlan Elementary, Harlan Middle, and Harlan High will be Wednesday, August 17th, 2022. Sunshine Preschool students will begin on Wednesday, August 24th, 2022.
Dragons join together to support our neighbors in Southeastern Kentucky.
Harlan Elementary is accepting donations to aid those affected by the recent devastation caused by flooding.
Donations can be dropped off at the school.

Over the last week, HHS Dragons Jae’dyn Gist, Mia Pace, Jaden Ward, and Abigail Wynn traveled to Nazareth College in New York to attend the Peerforward Workshop. The goal of the PeerForward program is to train young leaders so they can inspire, challenge, and assist their friends and classmates, as well as themselves, to pursue higher education.
Their duties will include helping their classmates with FAFSA, attaining college and career readiness and applying for scholarships, as well as pursuing other opportunities.
We are very proud of our HHS Dragon leaders. Follow their success on Instagram @harlanpeerforward

Update for 3-5 Football 🏈:
*3-4th grade students will begin skills fundamental practice in August. You will need a completed physical. More details will come in the coming weeks!
*5th grade students interested in playing football need to begin practice with the middle school as soon as possible. Practice is at the Joe Gilley football field from 6-8 Monday-Friday.
*Due to not having helmets, 3-5th grade football has been delayed. Orders were placed in May, and we have received uniforms, shoulder pads, helmets, girdles, but not helmets. Our supplier says they will not be in until September. Because of this, we will begin with fundamental/skills practice with 3-4 grade students, and 5th grade students will begin practice with the middle school. If we receive helmets in time, we will ramp up activity with 3-5th grade students in preparations to complete the season.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
The HHS Marching Band is selling shirts! If you are interested in supporting the band, please contact Jennifer Brock, Aimee Cupp, or any band member. Go Dragons! 🎶

💚Harlan Elementary School would like to welcome Mrs. Whitney Creech! Mrs. Creech will be the 21st Century Coordinator at Harlan Elementary School.
Hello Dragon Family! It is a complete honor to be a part of such a wonderful family of students, parents and staff. My prior experience will allow me to excel in this position and bring some exciting things to our students. Currently, I am completing my Master’s degree in MAT at the University of the Cumberlands. I am so eager to work with each of you and help make this new school year a huge success! I have two children Collin and Karsyn. Collin will be in Kindergarten here at Harlan and it truly is a dream come true to be able to work in the same building. My husband Jonathan is a graduate of HHS. To be able to give back to a community that has already done so much for members of my family is a blessing. I am excited for my future at Harlan Independent Schools and look forward to meeting all those smiling faces! 🐉 #Morethanaschool
