The Harlan Independent School District is currently undergoing a $7,000,000 renovation project that provides major upgrades to nearly every building across the Central Street campus. Construction crews began work in May 2021 and have made substantial progress installing new roofs, renovating bathrooms, replacing ceilings, lights, floor tiles and more. The construction project is expected to continue through August 2022.
As a result of material shortages across the country, some delays have been experienced in key areas, like the renovated kitchen, which will require a delayed start for the 2021-2022 school year. Students in Kindergarten through High School were originally scheduled to start on Thursday, August 12, 2021, but will now begin on Wednesday, August, 18th, 2021.
We plan to continue with 5th Grade and Kindergarten Jumpstart as planned. Those dates and times will not change. Additionally, this change does not impact the Sunshine Preschool schedule.
