The start of the 2021-2022 School year is just around the corner and the Harlan Independent School District is extremely excited to gather with our family for a "Family Reunion"! The #FamilyofDragons will be reuniting for what is sure to be one of the greatest school years we have ever had.
The faculty, staff, and administration worked extremely hard to end the the 2021 school year as strong as possible in hopes of giving our families an even better 2021-2022 school year.
Recently, Superintendent C.D. Morton shared with the Board of Education an Operational Guideline document that will be utilized by the district to guide day to day routines as students and staff arrive on campus for the new school year. The document will outline for staff and students the expectations related to their health and safety for in-person learning.
Morton stated, "This document is a starting point for our district and is focused on supporting in-person learning, student social and emotional well being, and the health and safety of overall school community. After more than 17 months of disrupted learning processes, we feel confident we can navigate the upcoming school year in a way that prioritizes what is best for students and the education community. Striking a balance that appreciates parent and family choice is very important as we move forward. We have learned a lot since March of 2020 and one thing is abundantly clear, our teachers and staff cannot wait to reunite with our students on August 12th. There will certainly be some challenges in the days ahead, but I am certain we will once again lead in a way that makes our families and community proud. We must never loose sight of how important the school experience is for the development of a child."
Both vaccinated and unvaccinated students and staff are welcome to wear masks, but will not be required to do so at this time. However, all passengers on school buses are required to wear masks per CDC mandates.
The Harlan Independent School District Operations Guidance will be shared with all students and families and is available for download from the district website. The document will apply to students at Sunshine Preschool, Harlan Elementary, Harlan Middle, and Harlan High.
